In a recent meeting with the National Commission for Constitutional Reform, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro outlined a timeline for drafting a new constitutional proposal.

According to his statements, after conducting extensive and participatory debate sessions, the final drafting phase of the document will begin in approximately 60 days. The goal is to present a final proposal within 90 days, which will then be discussed and approved by the National Assembly, in accordance with the country’s Constitution.

During his remarks, President Maduro called on the commission members to engage in a “creative, intelligent, and well-directed” debate to clearly define the scope of the reform.

He emphasized the importance of this initiative as part of a broader process of cultural and political maturity in the country, stating that Venezuela has reached a “higher level” in its struggle for national rebirth.

The president expressed confidence in the deputies of the Historic Bloc of the Homeland, urging them to work in a pedagogical manner so that the reform can be delivered to the National Electoral Council (CNE) within a short timeframe. If achieved, the CNE would then have 30 days to call a referendum, allowing the Venezuelan people to voice their opinion on the proposal.

President Maduro also mentioned having received reports from the subcommissions that have been working on preliminary debates, highlighting the growing enthusiasm and interest of the people in participating in this process.

However, he did not hesitate to criticize the political opposition, referring to some of its members as “zombies” of a failed policy, while expressing confidence in the people’s ability to discern and support a reform that is “comprehensive, unifying, and beautiful.”
